Meredith Allen's photographs have recently explored the world of kiddie Rides- those alluring and frightening knockoffs of pop cartoon characters placed in front of stores. Allen's new work examines these same pop cartoon images in a very different manner. Popsicles molded from such characters as Tweety Bird and Bugs are glimpsed in various states of meltdown, against an idyllic landscape complete with horizon line. The ultimate cheap thrill of childhood can get pretty ugly- distorted faces with sticky drips everywhere if not eaten with total focus. Childhood perils never disappear.
